Veterinary Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture originates from Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and has been used for thousands of years to treat animals. Today, it is widely accepted by veterinarians and human physicians practicing Western medicine as an evidence-based therapy.
Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body that correspond with nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and connective issues in ways that modulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and influence the body’s internal regulatory systems. These biologic mechanisms help relieve pain, promote healing, improve organ function, and restore physiologic balance.

What is integrative veterinary medicine?
Integrative veterinary medicine combines the strengths of both Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). At Tulsa Veterinary Acupuncture, this means we work closely with your primary veterinarian and use all available Western diagnostics—such as bloodwork, urinalysis, X-rays, ultrasounds, and other test results—to fully understand your pet’s health.
In addition to reviewing these diagnostics, we perform both a Western physical examination and a TCVM examination to identify patterns of imbalance. Treatment plans may include acupuncture and other TCVM therapies, combined with medications or treatments prescribed by your regular veterinarian.
By integrating the best of both Eastern and Western medicine, we create a more complete, individualized plan that supports your pet’s comfort, wellness, and overall quality of life.

What types of conditions does acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture is well known for its ability to reduce pain and improve mobility, but its benefits extend far beyond orthopedic conditions.
In veterinary medicine, acupuncture can be used to support a wide range of health issues, including behavioral concerns and anxiety, endocrine disorders (such as diabetes or thyroid disease), neurologic conditions, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, gastrointestinal disorders, autoimmune diseases, and other complex internal medicine cases. It is also valuable as part of palliative or hospice care.
Because acupuncture works by restoring balance and supporting normal physiologic function, it can be integrated with Western medical treatments to address most conditions affecting a pet’s comfort, wellness, or quality of life.

What are mobile acupuncture appointments like?
Mobile acupuncture appointments are designed to keep your pet as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Instead of traveling to a clinic, your pet is treated in their own familiar environment, surrounded by the people they trust. This reduces stress and makes the experience especially beneficial for pets who are anxious, fearful, or who struggle with mobility issues that make clinic visits difficult.
Dr. Baldwin brings all necessary supplies and sets up in whatever space your pet feels most at ease—whether that’s a favorite bed, a cozy blanket, or a quiet corner of your home. Most pets settle quickly and often relax or even fall asleep during treatment.
While Dr. Baldwin provides everything needed for acupuncture, having your pet’s favorite treats, toys, or comfort items available can help make the experience even more positive. Long-lasting treats—such as frozen peanut butter in a cup or a frozen jar of baby food—can be especially useful for keeping pets calmly engaged and a bit more still during their session.
Mobile care allows your pet to receive individualized acupuncture with minimal stress and maximum comfort.
